Gerald N. Glickman, D.D.S., M.S., M.B.A., J.D.
Biography
AAE Past President Gerald N. Glickman is the professor and chair of the department of endodontics and director of graduate endodontics at Texas A & M University/Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas. He has held similar positions at the University of Washington and the University of Michigan, in addition to serving as chair of the department of stomatology at the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston. He received his M.S. degree in microbiology from the University of Kentucky, D.D.S. degree from Ohio State University, General Practice Residency certificate from the University of Florida, Certificate and M.S. degree in Endodontics from Northwestern University, M.B.A. degree from Southern Methodist University and J.D. from Texas Wesleyan University.
Throughout his career, Dr. Glickman has been very active in various dental organizations. He is a Diplomate and past president of the American Board of Endodontics. He is a consultant for the Commission on Dental Accreditation, past vice president of the Council of Sections of the American Dental Education Association, member of the ADEA Commission for Change and Innovation in Dental Education, and chair of the Council of Sections Task Force on Competencies and Foundation Knowledge for the New General Dentist. He is a Fellow of the American and International Colleges of Dentists.
He serves on the editorial boards of the International Endodontic Journal, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology and Endodontology, and as an associate editor of the Journal of Endodontics. He has contributed to major texts in endodontics including the ninth edition of Pathways of the Pulp, fourth edition of Principles and Practice of Endodontics, and the sixth edition of Ingle’s Endodontics. His research interests include endodontic technology, dental education, and curriculum and risk management.

Ethical and Legal Issues in Clinical Endodontics
Topic:Learning Objectives:
1. List critical areas of risk in the management of patients.
2. Define the parameters associated with negligence, standards of care, informed consent, and documentation.
3. Explain emerging legal and ethical concepts involving patient care.Today’s clinician is faced with a potential myriad of legal and ethical issues that may increase risk if key principles are not adhered to. This presentation will illustrate ways to reduce risk with respect to litigation, ethical dilemmas, patient communications and specialist-generalist interrelationships. Various real-life scenarios will be presented to illustrate concepts, but special attention will be devoted to informed consent, the triad of litigation, medical history, dental “mistakes” and documentation.
Three-hour to full-day lecture or seminar.

Strategic Decision Making in Nonsurgical Endodontic Retreatment
Topic:Learning Objectives:
1. Identify reasons for “endodontic failure.”
2. Cite challenges and methods for predictably managing endodontic failures.
2. Use algorithms to determine the best treatment options for patients.In practice, clinicians encounter multiple factors that influence directives in treatment that range from complex cases requiring careful preoperative analysis, retreatment concerns, periodontal conditions, restorative issues, patient desires and expectations, financial considerations and long-term prognosis. This presentation will focus on various nonsurgical retreatment techniques and methods used to manage difficult cases, and will illustrate a systematic process for making appropriate decisions. Clinical cases will be discussed to highlight various approaches to treatment.
Three-hour to full-day lecture or seminar.
