Jazzed for Endodontics in the Big Easy
AAE17 set a new record as more than 4,300 members, guests and exhibitors attended the annual meeting in New Orleans. Cutting-edge 3-D surgery was one of the many highlights as Dr. Syngcuk Kim performed microscopic surgery on two patients "behind the curtains" while the audience viewed the procedure with 3-D glasses, seeing the treatments just as Dr. Kim did. Hundreds of attendees experienced this innovative technology.
After a fortune-telling of what the week had in store from Madame Mattscheck, AAE President Linda Levin sat down with keynote speakers James Carville and Mary Matalin, who offered a wide-range of opinions on the current political climate.
At the annual President's Breakfast, Dr. Linda Levin called on members to take back control of the specialty from various special interests. Dr. Levin told the audience that the AAE's new strategic plan will support those efforts through three overarching goals: the public valuing their natural teeth and seeking endodontists for their care; the dental profession valuing endodontists as partners with advanced expertise; and recognition of the AAE and its members as the global leaders in advocating the value and quality of endodontics.
Also at the President's Breakfast, Dr. Levin presented the President's Award, which honors exceptional members who work behind the scenes to promote and advance the Association. Dr. Karl Keiser is an adjunct associate professor at the Ujniversity of Texas Dental School in San Antonio and a private practice endodontist in New Braunfels, Texas. A Board-certified endodontist, Dr. Keiser served as a director, secretary and treasurer on the American Board of Endodontics and has been a valuable leader and examiner for Board candidates.
Other AAE17 highlights included the annual Louis I. Grossman Ceremony, where 90 new Diplomates of the American Board of Endodontics were pinned and the Edgar D. Coolidge Awards Brunch, recognizing the 2017 recipients of the Association's highest honors and awards.
