Dr. Robert Amato Awarded Winkler Professorship in Endodontics
Robert B. Amato, D.M.D., has been selected as the second recipient of the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine Winkler Professorship in Endodontics. Financed through a generous bequest of the estate of Dr. Thomas F. Winkler III, the professorship honors faculty members who emulate Dr. Winkler’s leadership, service and dedication. Dr. Winkler was a beloved faculty member in the TUSDM department of endodontics for 30 years and a university trustee for 10 years.
After graduating from TUSDM in 1980, Dr. Amato completed the General Practice Residency program at Rhode Island Hospital in 1981 and entered the advanced education program in endodontics at TUSDM. Upon completion of this program in 1984, he was appointed as an assistant clinical professor in endodontics at TUSDM, and then promoted to associate professor in 1998 and to professor in 2008. He currently serves as the department of endodontics interim chair and postgraduate program director.
Dr. Amato has continuously demonstrated strong leadership in organized dentistry at the local, state and national levels. He has served the AAE as a District I director and member of various standing and special committees. Currently, Dr. Amato is the general chair of the Annual Session Planning Committee. Other past leadership roles include chair of the American Dental Association Committee on Continuing Education and president of the Massachusetts Association of Endodontics.
An outstanding clinician as well as educator and mentor, Dr. Amato is a well-deserved recipient of the Winkler Professorship. Congratulations to Dr. Amato on this great achievement!
