Dr. Richard S. Schwartz Wins 2019 AAE President’s Award
Each year, the AAE’s prestigious President’s Award honors exceptional members who work, often behind the scenes, to promote and advance the Association.
We want to make sure their tireless efforts do not go unrecognized. This year's awardee is a tenacious endodontist who is passionate about moving the needle towards progressing our specialty forward.
Dr. Richard S. Schwartz's path to our specialty wasn’t necessarily a traditional one. He was a restorative dentist for 19 years prior to entering post-graduate training in endodontics. He attended a two-year general dentistry residency while in the U. S. Air Force, and then did a combination of private practice, teaching and dental materials research before entering endodontic training in 1996.
He has authored over 100 articles and abstracts and was a cover author on three editions of Fundamentals of Operative Dentistry by Quintessence Publishing Company. He is the primary author of Best Practices in Endodontics, also published by Quintessence. Since 1998, he has been in full-time private practice limited to endodontics in San Antonio, Texas, and has practiced with Dr. Rick Davis since 2001.
He teaches part-time in graduate endodontics at The Dental School at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
He does a bit of professional writing and has lectured in the U.S. and several other countries.
Dr. Schwartz is digitally savvy and has contributed lots of enlightening content to our Connection forum. He is a wonderful source of wisdom.
Dr. Schwartz has been married to his wife Jeannette since 1976 and they have a married daughter who is an engineer in Austin, Texas.
