AAE19 Boasts 4,200 Attendees, Variety of Special Events
This year’s annual meeting exhibited a great deal of international flair, taking place in the culture-rich city of Montréal and featuring the meeting’s inaugural International Reception, as well as a variety of other special events.
We also unveiled our exciting new consumer campaign, Worth Saving, with a slat wall in the Member Center carrying the campaign’s imagery and logo, as well as a complementary booth devoted to both Worth Saving and Save Your Tooth Month (May 2019). Our consumer engagement campaign pilot focuses on the value of saving natural teeth and seeking an endodontist as the first choice for tooth pain diagnosis and root canal treatment. Elements of the campaign were injected into much of AAE19 – from WiFi passwords to television screens bearing campaign branding throughout the Palais des congrès de Montréal. AAE staff distributed giveaways such as Save Your Tooth Month posters and “Worth Saving” tooth banks, and filled members in on the many activations of the campaign.
Educational opportunities abounded at AAE19, with several engaging educational tracks: Essentials for Practice Management, offering more than 15 courses appealing to attendees ranging from new practitioners to those nearing retirement with aim of elevating management skills to peak performance; Interdisciplinary, featuring experts in oral radiology, oral surgery, periodontics, prosthodontics, pediatric dentistry, ENT and pain specialists; Microsurgery – Fundamentals to Advances & Alternatives, which included targeted endodontic microsurgical procedures with help of 3-D imaging and 3-D-printed stents, and piezo-assisted surgeries in order to preserve bone in the posterior mandibular region; Non-Surgical, which acknowledged the advanced technology that plays a big role in our specialty and the importance of knowing how the current and future directions in guided access cavity, root canal disinfection and regenerative endodontics can help a lot of endodontists to prepare for the next era of endodontic treatment; and Oral Systemic Connection, which addressed how systemic health affects oral health.
In addition, in honor of the local flavor of our host city, three exceptional speakers presented on a variety of topics…in French! Dr. Catherine Ricci discussed management of complex cases; Dr. Chafic Safi explored bioceramic obturation; and Dr. Guillaume Jouanny enlightened us on surgical soft tissue management.
We kicked off day one of AAE19 with the awe-inspiring Mike Walsh, futurist and CEO of Tomorrow, a global consultancy on designing companies for the 21st century. Walsh advises leaders on how to thrive in the current era of disruptive technological change, and he wowed the AAE19 audience with talks of what life might look like in the coming decades.
Other highlights from the week included the pinning of 150 new Diplomates (the largest class to date!) and the Edgar D. Coolidge Awards Brunch, recognizing the 2019 recipients of the Association’s highest honors and awards. In addition, Dr. Patrick E. Taylor presented the President’s Award, honoring exceptional members who work behind the scenes to promote and advance the Association, to Dr. Richard S. Schwartz.
