Presidential Profile: Linda G. Levin, D.D.S., Ph.D.

Throughout her career, Dr. Linda G. Levin has focused her efforts on strengthening the endodontic specialty. As an educator, she has ensured that future dentists receive quality endodontic training to provide superior patient care. As a researcher, she has advanced the specialty’s knowledge by authoring numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in endodontics and pulp biology. And as an organized dentistry leader, she has worked to address issues that affect endodontists, so the specialty can continue to thrive for years to come. Now Dr. Levin is taking on her newest challenge – president of the AAE – with that same focus and determination.

Reaching Out During Root Canal Awareness Week

The 10th celebration of Root Canal Awareness Week featured new videos, a new kickoff event and endodontists making news in their communities. AAE members Drs. Kirk Coury of Amarillo Endodontics and Derek Peek of Eastern Iowa Endodontics were interviewed by local television stations inTexas andIowa, respectively, about endodontists, root canal treatment and the importance of saving teeth. Local news is an effective and powerful way to reach potential patients and raise the profile of endodontists as the specialists in saving teeth.

After more than a year of extensive research and planning, the AAE unveiled its new brand at AAE16 in San Francisco. The elements of the new brand – including a new logo and refreshed website – will help the AAE better represent the smart, professional, collaborative and innovative nature of AAE members and the endodontic specialty overall.

Not Your Average Root Canal

Endodontists go through years of training to become specialists in saving teeth. They acquire specific skills and knowledge to manage a variety of complex situations that may arise while diagnosing and treating their patients’ tooth pain. That holds true whether the patient is a human being – or a 400-pound bear. When zoo animals need root canal treatment, veterinarians and zookeepers turn to AAE-member endodontists for their expertise in saving teeth and relieving pain.

Fighting for Dentistry: ADA 2015-2016 Lobbying Accomplishments

Even in an election year and with a divided Congress, the American Dental Association’s committed advocacy on behalf of the profession has achieved results. I can attest to the day-in and day-out dedication of ADA staff and leadership as well as their visible presence on Capitol Hill.

The AAE reinforces ADA efforts by supporting the American Dental Political Action Committee and by co-signing to targeted communications to key legislators and regulators.
