Save-a-Smile: A Domestic Access to Care Project in Maryland

In 2023, the Foundation for Endodontics and Specialized Dental Partners’ Domestic Access to Care program awarded $60,000 to various projects around the US. Dr. Ron Taylor, founding partner and CEO of Trident Endo and RCT Endodontics, received a grant to support outreach efforts.

“We aim to address a critical endodontic need in our community and positively impact the lives of those we serve,” says Dr. Taylor. “Our team has developed a volunteer outreach program to provide one-visit, pain-free root canal treatments, including retreatments, to those who require them.”

The annual event, founded in 2018, serves approximately 30 patients from across the Washington, D.C., Howard County, Prince George’s County, MD, area. On April 27, 2024, 51 volunteers gathered at one RCT Endodontics office, providing 15 root canals to 14 patients. It was the largest volunteer turnout to date!

If you are providing access to free endodontic treatment in your own community, review the program guidelines for more details on the program. The deadline for Domestic Access to Care applications is June 30, annually. For more more information, contact grants.foundation@aae.org.
